  • ABC Mommy & Me An interactive alphabet story. Click on the Home tab as well for other activities for toddler, pre-K and Kindergarten age children.
  • Little Explorers Picture Dictionary Click on a letter at the top of the screen. You will then see a page of words that start with that letter and then link to another page for more information about that word. Also has a French, German, Portuguese and Spanish version with the English translation. (Enchanted Learning)
  • Picture Match Games to practice beginning-letter sounds, short-vowel sounds and long-vowel sounds.
  • Starfall Great animated/interactive alphabet (letter names & sounds) for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade. Click on ABC's.

  • Arthur Read along with the world's most famous aardvark and friends.
  • Funbrain The Reading area contains a few on-line books and Mad Libs; there are also word games, number games and more! (Pearson Education)
  • Funschool Lots of great educational games and activities for preschool through third grade.
  • Internet4classrooms Weblinks for first grade language arts activities. Click on the links at the bottom of the page for other grade specific activities (K-8th grade).
  • Kindersite 1,000's of links to games, songs and stories for young children. Activities in English and Spanish.
  • Make-a-Flake Not a reading site, but just for fun--Cut a virtual snowflake online. Neat site!
  • PBS Kids Includes links to all of your favorite PBS shows.
  • Scholastic Kid Activities
    Enjoy interacting online with favorite books such as Magic School Bus, Harry Potter, Goosebumps and Clifford the Red Dog to name just a few.
  • Seussville University
    Go and visit Seussville University where you can play games and have fun interacting with Dr. Seusss books.
  • Starfall A learn-to-read website primarily designed for first graders but has activities for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and second grade students as well.
  • Utah Education Network Lots of interactive activities for all school subjects. Click on grade specific button for "Student Interactives" on the right side of the page.
  • Wacky Web Tales These Wacky Web Tales (like Mad Libs) are geared for grades 3 and above. Check back monthly for new tales!
  • Word Wizard Move the letters to make a word that fits the clue.

  • Caldecott Medal Become acquainted with Randolph Caldecott. He was an English illustrator. He is famous for his illustrations of a series of 16 children's books in the mid 1800s at a time when books written specifically for children were just coming into vogue. The Caldecott Medal for excellence in children's book illustration is named for him. From this site, you can see a listing of all Caldecott winners and honor books beginning in 1938.
  • Newbery Medal John Newbery was an English publisher and bookseller in the 1700s. He was one of the first to include juvenile literature as an important branch of the publishing business. The Newbery Medal for excellence in children's book writing is named for him. From this site, you can see a listing of all Newbery winners and honor books beginning in 1922.

  • Between the Lions Pick from a list of online stories; each story leads into an "adventure" of related games.
  • Giggle Poetry Ideas for educators on teaching poetry in fun and interesting ways. Student activities such as fill-in-the-blank and read 'em and rate 'em poems.
  • Kids@Random (Random House Book site for kids). Highlights of books, author spotlights and links to favorite character mini-sites.
  • KidsReads.com A place on the web for kids to find info about their favorite books, series and authors. Reviews of the newest titles, interviews with the coolest authors and special features on great books. Trivia games, word scrambles and awesome contests!
  • Lil' Fingers Stories and games for toddler, pre-K and Kindergarten age children.
  • Mother Goose Rebus Rhymes Rebus Rhymes are designed for students who are learning how to read. Students enjoy picking out the words they can read in their favorite nursery rhymes. (Enchanted Learning)
  • Parents and Children Online Together The magazine's goal is to further the cause of family literacy by bringing parents and children together through the magic of reading. This site features original stories and articles for children, suitable for reading aloud. A special section for parents features resources on issues related to children's development and literacy learning.
  • Poetry4Kids Kenn Nesbitt's Children's Poetry Playground - Funny children's poems and poetry books, games, contests, lessons, discussion forums, and journals, plus a rhyming dictionary, streaming audio & more.
  • Storybook Sites Here is a list of links to a variety of Online Storybook sites.
  • Storyline Online An on-line streaming video program featuring Screen Actors Guild members reading children's books aloud (17 different children's books as of 2/2006). Activity and lesson ideas are included with each book.
  • StoryPlace The children's Digital Library in English and Spanish.

  • America Reads Here you'll find guidance and resources on being your child's first and best teacher.
  • Children's Book Council This web site for children's book fans is fantastic, whether you're a parent, teacher, artist, publisher, bookseller or librarian. Highlights include Choosing a Children's Book, 13 Exciting Reading Activities for Children, and Hot off the Presses.
  • Parents' Place Houghton Mifflin's site for parents & children designed to encourage literacy with on-line activities. Pre-K activities as well as spelling activities for Grades 1-6.
