Behavioral Programs
All students participate in a comprehensive program which combines
behavioral and psychodynamic therapeutic approaches. This program
uses a level system (with increasing privileges and responsibilities),
individual contracting, both group and individual social skills
training, individual, family and group counseling, and consultation
with parents.
The focus of the program is to teach students how to generalize
appropriate behavior. External reinforcement and control is faded
as students internalize appropriate attitudes and behaviors.
Academic Program
Jordan Resource Center (JRC) offers a full range of academic
services. An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed for
every student. The I.E.P. addresses behavioral, social, emotional
concerns, as well as academic issues and is created through the
combined efforts of the professional staff, parents, and the
student. Standard academic courses are offered as well as a number
of specially designed courses. Teachers utilize a variety of
strategies to improve both motivation and learning.
Transition Program
Students participate daily in a school sponsored "job-site" where
they receive on-the-job training and practice general employability
skills. In addition to Friday transition classes, students participate
in at least two activities per month (off school grounds) designed
to increase community awareness and involvement. Students have
access to a variety of vocational training programs, apprenticeships,
within the school district and at private and community agencies
within the metropolitan Salt Lake City area.
Extended School Year Program
ESY services are provided beyond the normal school year for students deemed eligible by the IEP team. The IEP team determines eligibility for ESY services and the type of services needed by the student for the identified goals.
