School Community Council

Our School Community Council meets five times during the year. The following are the dates planned. We meet at 7:45 a.m. in the school’s faculty room, or if needs be, in the Media Center. We are doing a fundraiser this year to help provide technology for teachers and students at our school.

Absent: Diena Riddle-principal, Karen Hamel-teacher, Greg Hoch- parent member, Christi La Due-parent member, Steve Patterson-parent member, Lisa Cabiles-parent member.


Items Discussed:


- Follow up on SNAP plan: final SNAP plan OK’d by West Jordan City.

- Ipads/covers: cart purchased. Question regarding covers. Will need to discuss further with Diena.

- Ipad assembly to present to school: ?have Mr. Morris do brief presentation about what

        ipads can do, how to treat them, etc. Assemblies scheduled for Tues, Mar 26 @ 230pm

        for A,C,D tracks. 2nd assembly for B track on Thurs apr 4, 230pm.

- SCC meetings: discussed again changing meetings to evenings next year. SCC will create

- fliers w/ map of school boundaries requesting members from specific areas. Still will ask

        teachers to recommend people to ask specifically to participate on SCC.


•Follow up items:


Linda will talk to Mr. Morris re: doing demo during assembly, proper handling of ipads, etc.

Andrea to create fliers w/ map of school boundaries to be sent out.

Tami to get map to Andrea for flier.

Andrea to send email to current SCC re: time change of meetings, who wants to continue.

    -should we move meetings to evenings?

    -SCC members signed SNAP plan.

    -parent complained regarding side drop off, on side where buses drop off, PM pick up still

            difficult.

    -SCC questions if Hayden Peak should have volunteers after school stand on that side to flag

            people to keep moving?

    -discussed issues/concerns regarding Bloomfield Estates neighborhood.

    -discussed proposed revised safe walking routes. Tami to submit for approval.

    -Ipads/ covers

    -Diena to move forward with purchase of ipads. SCC fundraiser monies to provide approximately

        25 ipads.

    -discussed various ipad covers. Linda and Andrea will do research to determine what type of

        cover can be afforded.

    -procedures need to be drafted for Ipad use that will stay with the cart.

Election of New Chair: 

•With Brooke Gatten no longer on SCC, it is necessary to elect new chair.  Andrea Marshall was nominated, motion was seconded.  Andrea is now Chair.  With Andrea now Chair, need to elect vice chairperson.  Linda Harris nominated, motion was seconded.  Linda is now vice chair. 


New Members: 

•Letter sent home to parents on tracks A,B,C asking for nominations to elect more members on council.  We received one nomination back.  Letter will be sent to D track parents, then elections will be held.


Fundraiser:

•Discussed how fundraiser is going.  Slight change in midsale prize incentives: will be given during first week, not just on midsale day.

•Discussed how to spend fundraiser money….. Council unanimously agreed to buy Ipads for student use.  They will be on a cart that teachers can check out to use in their classroom. 

•Steve Patterson discussed cases to protect each Ipad. 

•Fundraiser ends 8-21-12.  Council will meet that day at 9am at Hayden Peak to collect money, distribute books ordered to students. 

•Question raised about how we get credit for online sales. 

Safety: 

•Discussed WJPD community officer out during drop off.  Seems to have helped a little.

•Steve Patterson asked if he could help with drop off enforcement, encouraging parents to follow the rules.

•Discussed SNAP plan- West Jordan city wants kids west of 5600 W to walk through West Hills Middle School property.  Council agreed this does not seem like safe route. 


Rules for SCC: 

•Agenda to be posted at school for 2 weeks before meetings. 

•Minutes to be posted online on Hayden Peak website


SCC Overview:

•Discussed SCC responsibilities

-Safety issues: safe walking routes

-one fundraiser per year

-education achievement-Road to Success

•Duties of SCC

-review test results

-discussed printed policy handout from Jordan School District website about duties of SCC.

•Next meeting trends data will be available and discussed.

•Land trust money used to hire teachers aides.


Fun Run

•Discussed when to do fun run.  Decided on Oct. 5 @ 9am.  Will discuss further at next meeting.

¬Linda to submit meeting minutes to Diena after each meeting.

¬Andrea to follow up with Teri from Entertainment books regarding: credit for online sales, end of sale prizes.

¬Steve to invite Bill Baranowski from West Jordan City to next meeting to discuss SNAP plan.
